PIECE OF HISTORY OF THE HOUSE
This unique dike house is classified separately under the Nature Conservation Act and leans on the large estate, but does have its own cadastral number.
We would also like to take you on a journey through history. Old drawings of the estate "Huis te Jaarsveld" show a house on the dike through many centuries. The current dike house was built in 1888.
The dike house is connected to the former castle island by a moat. In 1384 the castle "Veldenstein" was built there. The castle has been a battleground several times: from the quarrels between the Angles and Cods, the battles between the City of Utrecht and the lords of Vianen, and two wars with the French. It was destroyed and rebuilt several times, until the last war of 1672. In 1760, the well-known family of Cornelis and Johan de Witt built the current manor house on the front island. Many well-known historical figures owned the estate, including Anna van Buuren, the first wife of Prince William of Orange. Even the well-known poet Vondel wrote about the pleasant location of the estate on the river Lek.
For a real experience, it is of course possible to view this house on location!
